Marieke and Curtis' wedding had a certain ethereal feel to it that seemed accentuated by the majestic mountains in the background. Despite the threat of thunderstorms, the raindrops held off until after the ceremony, and now the couple look back fondly on their wedding day as "the perfect storm". How and where did you meet? We met in Washington, DC where we both lived and worked together as engineers for a General Contractor, after we got engaged we moved to Maine, Curtis grew up on a small island in Maine (Little Cranberry Island, ME) and Marieke grew up in a small town in southern Vermont (Westminster West, VT) and we were so excited to move back to New England closer to our families and start our life together.

Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding? I (Marieke) grew up in Westminster West, VT and always envisioned a wedding ceremony in a beautiful Vermont field surrounded by old Vermont farms and the green mountains, all I wanted was to walk down a grassy aisle barefoot to marry the love of my life. The backdrop of Vermont represented the importance of the outdoors to both of us and how much we cherish New England, we wanted the wedding celebration to be a small town getaway for our family and friends and share with them the beautiful part of the country we live in.

What was your theme/color palette? Simple and boho, with a natural hint of rustic (it was in barn after all!). The color palette was ivory, sage green, gray, with hints of blush pink and gold.

How did your wedding reflect your relationship as a couple? All we wanted was a night with great food, good drinks, and amazing dancing, (we both love to dance) and to be surrounded by those we love most. We wanted the ceremony to be brief yet intimate, with a blessing by the mother of the bride, reading by the grooms sister, and an acapella song by the siblings of the bride, we were able to capture what is most important to us as we joined our lives. We didn't need anything fancy, just to be all together, it was beautiful to watch as all of our family and friends laughed and shared in the adventure of the evening.

What were some of your favorite moments? We look back on our wedding as “the perfect storm”, the ceremony soundtrack was rolling thunder with dark gray billowing clouds moving in behind us and it concluded just as the raindrops started to fall, we (bride/groom) walked down the aisle and proceeded to run, no shoes, wedding dress hiked, down the dirt road to the cover of the barn, some of our guests were not as lucky and got trapped in the downpour of the August evening. The first downpour was the first of many throughout the night, the night was a whirlwind of torrential rain and thunderstorms and gorgeous moments of sunshine bursting through the clouds. The dramatic rain and storms only made the night that much more unforgettable and no one hesitated to dance the night away to help dry off their soaked outfits.
