How and where did you meet? We met online while living in upstate New York.  Even though we met in a small town, we’ve both traveled a lot and enjoy being adventurous.  After a few dates that included ski trips, unicycle rides, and hiking – the rest was easy.

What was the proposal like? We had planned to move from Brooklyn, NY to San Francisco, CA - which entailed a 9-day cross-country road trip.  Immediately before getting into the car to begin our journey, Chad brought me down to the promenade overlooking the city sky-line.  He got down on one knee, and said, “While there will be much change throughout our lives, there will be one thing that is always constant.  And that is us.”  A beautiful ring followed, and we set off on our drive, heading west, as we began the rest of our lives.

Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding? I grew up in Sharon, Vermont.  We knew that we wanted a location that would highlight the beautiful scenery of “home.”

How did you choose your venue? Sugarbush Ski Resort was large enough to host our large (140 person) wedding while being surrounding by green mountains.  The most important aspect of our wedding was time with each guest.  We wanted a venue that allowed the possibility for the entire onsite guest accommodations so that we didn’t have to worry about shuttles or buses.  By having our guests stay at the venue, we maximized our time with everyone.

What was your theme/color palette? Colors: pale blue, mustard, and cranberry.  Bridemaids wore individualized pale blue dresses.

What was your favorite detail from your wedding? The fact that SO many friends and family contributed to this celebration:  my uncle was the officiant, our neighbor made the bridesmaids gifts, my dad made the candle holders for each table, our friend wrote and recited a poem for the ceremony, Chad’s dad made our time-capsule box, another neighbor made the wedding dress,  my uncle (officiant) performed a puppet show during a band break, a family friend did calligraphy for the invitations, an aunt made our thank-you cards, and the whole community collaborated to make a quilt that was gifted to us and displayed at the reception.  This celebration showed so much love and support from everyone involved.

How did your wedding reflect your relationship as a couple? We are laid back and relaxed, but like to have fun.  I like to think that our wedding reflected that.

What were some of your favorite moments? Riding up the chairlift with both of my parents as we approached the ceremony site. Exchanging vows privately by the trees on the mountain top. Dancing with my dad. Sipping champagne, in bathrobes, after the entire day was done, with my new husband. Finally taking a deep breath and soaking it all in.

What advice would you give other couples planning their wedding? Enjoy the process.  It is not worth becoming stressed or overwhelmed.
