How and where did you meet? We both worked at the Huntington Theatre Company together, though Thom likes to tell it that they really started talking and flirting when Bevin directed a play he wrote for another theatre company.

What was the proposal like? We’d been talking about marriage in the abstract for a while, so Thom eventually got around to buying a ring. A few days later — and before he had a chance to come up with any kind of grand scheme worthy of a proposal — he was sitting at his writing desk when Bevin walked over in a towel, fresh out of the shower. She was in a sentimental mood, crying as she spoke about something she wanted to do at that abstract future wedding, whenever it might be.

So naturally, Thom got up and walked away without a word, leaving her standing there, dripping wet and sobbing in a towel. (He doesn’t always think things through.)

This would have probably been the end of their relationship if he hadn’t returned with the ring he’d just bought, dropped down on one knee, and said, “Okay, so let’s do it.” Later, after they called their families, he would clarify that the “it” was “get married,” and officially asked her to marry him in a yes-or-no way to avoid any confusing.

Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding? Bevin’s parents have a house in Dorset, which is the only place where Bevin can really relax. We were living in Boston at the time, and we wanted to get away somewhere that we wouldn’t have to worry about work or other real-life stress interfering with things and distracting us from enjoying the weekend. At first we were worried about making our friends and family travel, too, but in the end, they all appreciated the chance to get away for a relaxing weekend.

How did you choose your venue? As soon as we saw the stunning ponds in the backyard of the Seven Springs House, we knew we had to have the ceremony there. It also helped that we could have our siblings and the maid & man of honor stay at the house with us.

What was your theme/color palette? Navy, Fuchsia, Orange, and Red.

What was your favorite detail from your wedding? Bevin’s necklace was old, new, borrowed, and blue all in one piece!

Thom liked how we incorporated our late friends. Also, the guitar-as-guestbook was dope as hell (plus now he has a Telecaster).

What were some of your favorite moments? The mother-son dance was a mashup of fad line dance songs (“Macarena,” “Chicken Dance,” etc.), and the DJ wisely followed it up with “The Time Warp” — the only other line dance we allowed on our playlist, which really got the party going.

Bevin enjoyed the realization that they couldn’t fit her dress on over her hair, and her bridesmaids had to help lift it onto her.

What advice would you give other couples planning their wedding? Invite all the people that you want you to invite. Yes, it can add up costs, but you’ll be sad when they weren’t there. Don’t play any songs by Journey.
