How and where did you meet? Benjamin and I met in Philadelphia at the, now closed 941 Theatre, on New Year’s Eve 2008. It was love at first sight. I thought he was so handsome! We were friends for a few years, then started dating long-distance in 2011, i was in Vermont and he was in Philadelphia, I eventually moved to Philadelphia by the end of that summer.

What was the proposal like? Benjamin proposed on Christmas morning in our living room in Philadelphia. It was just the two of us and it was so personal and romantic I still can’t believe how surprised I was. It was so special!

Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding? I am a Vermont native, born and raised in Rutland. It was never a question as to where we would get married, but what time of year. We both love the winter and thought a Vermont winter wedding would be perfect!

How did you choose your venue? We loved the Lilac Inn and felt comfortable there from the start. Shelly was so helpful and kind through the whole process and even tolerated us after we initially reached out, then waited almost entire year to make contact again. Originally, we wanted a small, family-only ceremony at the family lake house on Lake Gorge, but as the plans evolved, i became clear we needed a bigger space and unique character of the Lilac Inn suited our new plans perfectly. Not to mention our food tasting was out of this world! Our guests are still raving about the food!

How did your wedding reflect your relationship as a couple? It was so simple and casual. Our ceremony was less than 5 minutes and we exchanged out vows in private.

What were some of your favorite moments? We were running late and I had arrived with the maid of honor and sister Maggie, and Brother and man of honor, Ian, and we were all over the place! Somehow everyone was getting ready on their own and it was just Benjamin, our cat, Special Brush, and I in the bridal suite. He helped me put my dress on and Colette captured the moment, beautifully.

Also, my brother brought the family dog, Willow, to share in our festivities. Willow had been with our family for 15 years. She was blind, deaf, and could hardly walk, but she walked out and gave me cuddles the second she knew i was there. We also brought our cat from Philly and my mom brought dog from Rutland. It really was a “house party” vibe!

What advice would you give other couples planning their wedding? RELAX !!! Focus on your relationship instead of the perfect wedding.  This should not be the more important day of your life, but it is a VERY special one. Love your partner and remember how you got here. When we took off all of the labels “most important day”; “biggest day of your life”, etc, we were able to have more fun and enjoy our time with out friends, families, and most importantly, each other.
