How and where did you meet? Eddie and I met in Philly about 10 years ago.  It’s a funny story, we met through my ex-boyfriend who was Eddie’s landlord at that time.  We remained friends through several other relationships and then we were finally single at the same time, and decided to give the dating thing a try.  Best decision we ever made!!

What was the proposal like? The proposal was so unexpected and hilarious.  We all joke that he did it “Eddie style”.  We drove up from Philly to Vermont for a friend’s birthday weekend.  We were all siting on the deck of our friend’s house and Eddie walked out the screen door and tripped and fell right in front of me.  I was so concerned about him and trying to pick him up, and also wondering why no one was helping him.  I even grabbed the ring out of his hand and placed it on the tablet next to me, not realizing what I had just had in my hand.  It finally dawned on me that I had just put an engagement ring on the table, and that is when he asked me.  In front of all of our friends.  It was perfect and hysterical at the same time.  I still laugh when thinking about it.

Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding?  We chose Vermont for our wedding because that is where Eddie is from and I just fell in love with the beauty of it.  There was no question, even before we were engaged, we always wanted to get married there.

How did you choose your venue?  Our venue was one of the first I found online.  I was looking for a rustic venue, on the water with a great view.  Once I saw the Wallingford lodge, I had to have it for our wedding. We originally wanted a summer wedding, but they only had 2 weekends available in May and we didn’t want to wait until the following year for our wedding so we took the May 20th weekend. Funny story is, we booked and paid for the venue without actually seeing it in person until a month before our wedding.  It was beyond perfect.  The weather, the trees, the venue, the caretaker.  Everything we could have imagined plus more.

What was your theme/color palette?  We wanted a rustic theme and our colors were ivory, soft pink, moss green and a pop of hot pink!  My bridesmaid’s step father lent us a bunch of deer antlers to put throughout the venue for décor, which perfectly matched our invitations that had deer antlers.

What was your favorite detail from your wedding? My favorite detail?  This is a hard question, because I loved so many details.  I would have to say the handmade bowties for the groom and groomsman.  My bridesmaids and I picked out the fabric for the bowties (all had different fabric) and my bridesmaids mother made all of them.  They were perfection and the guys all looked insanely handsome.

How did your wedding reflect your relationship as a couple? Every detail of our wedding was hand-picked and pretty much done by us and our wedding party.  We wanted it to be perfect and also wanted it to be fun while planning and executing.  We really couldn’t have done it all without our wedding party as there were so many details and decorations. We had all of our flowers driven from Baltimore to Vermont by two of my bridesmaids who then did all of our arrangements over the next two days with blisters and all!  The groomsmen and bridesmaids all helped with decorating, final details and cleaning up after the wedding.  This wedding not only reflected everything about my husband and I, but reminded us how amazing the people we surround ourselves with really are.  We look through the wedding photos and you can just see smiles and laughter on all of our guests faces.  That is what we wanted.  Everyone to have a night to remember, and I am pretty sure we succeeded.

What were some of your favorite moments? Some of my favorite moments would have to be when my two bridesmaids rapped their toast to Eddie and I (it was so unexpected and the entire room was laughing), the ball toss to honor my late father, Omar Wessel Jr., and our first dance.  For our first dance, we had two of our friends sing acoustic, “Grow Old with You” by Adam Sandler.  They surprised us with adding a few versus at the end which I still get chills thinking about.  Again, we surround ourselves with amazing friends!

What advice would you give other couples planning their wedding? Step back and enjoy everything!  I was determined to not get stressed and wanted to love planning all of the details.  Rely on your bridesmaids, as they are key to keeping you sane.  When your wedding day comes, take a moment and look around at all the people that are there for you.  Enjoy it as this is your day and you worked so hard to see it all come together.
