Casey & Heather Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Same Sex Marriage | Intervale Barn Burlington Vermont | Vermont Bride Magazine

Casey and Heather met when they were both living in New York City.  After they started dating, they decided to move to Vermont together and Heather landed a great job there right away.  Casey needed to finish her school year teaching middle school Science in New York, so Heather moved to Vermont and lived with Casey’s parents.  They were apart for three months while Casey was finishing teaching.  During the time they were apart, Heather bought a ring and started planning a surprise proposal for when she returned to New York City to help Casey pack. When Heather got to the airport she got right in a cab to rush to their apartment to meet Casey and propose.  It felt like the longest cab ride ever because she was so nervous and they had been apart for so long. When Heather got there, she went up to the apartment, knocked on the door and got down on one knee with the ring out for when Casey opened the door.  As soon as Casey opened the door, Heather told Casey how much she loved her and asked her to marry her.  Casey was so surprised she responded “Is this for real?” before ultimately saying “yes.”  It was perfect!

It was important to Casey and Heather that they had a wedding where all of their guests felt relaxed and had the best time ever, without having to follow a strict wedding schedule. They also wanted an outdoor option, with an inside back-up space if the weather was less than ideal. The Intervale Barn had all of what they were looking for plus more, with a pond and plenty of space for an outdoor bar, food truck, lawn games. The barn also had a state of the art sound system and the tables and chairs were included. They had amazing BBQ from Smokin’ Butts BBQ, great beverages from TRU Spirits and they had to include Heady Topper and Focal Banger by the Alchemist Brewery where Casey works as a brewer.

Some of their favorite moments from the celebration were their first dance to “The Rose” by Bette Midler, which Heather sang quietly to Casey as they danced. Heather’s family from Indiana was able to come and she enjoyed spending time with them before the wedding, catching up and making them dinner at her and Casey’s house. Casey was also thrilled her entire family was able to attend - it made for a joyous occasion.

Casey and Heather’s advice for other couples planning their wedding is: “Some of the best advice I can give, is advice that was passed down to us by some of our friends and family.  Just enjoy the moments as they come.  It is easy to get bogged down with planning and details and trying to make everything perfect.  Perfect is in the eye of the beholder.  The point of the day is to celebrate your love for each other in the company of friends and family.  So long as that happens, it is perfect.  Take time throughout the wedding to pause and remember the moments as they come.  Don’t let the day fly by without enjoying each moment.  We are glad we took this advice because now we will have these cherished moments in our minds for years and years to come.”

Carie & Michael Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Rustic Elegant Barn Wedding | Intimate Wedding at Vermont Inn | Vermont Bride Magazine

On Carie’s first day at her new job in Newark, New Jersey, Mike promised to show her the beautiful parts of the state. He chose to first take her kayaking in Sea Bright and the pair started dating soon after. Carie is originally from Vermont and it was on a trip back there for Thanksgiving that the couple were planning on an overnight stay at the Red Clover Inn on their way to Saint Albans. Mike had originally planned on proposing that night, then sharing their big news over the holiday, but a snowstorm derailed his plans and they had to drive straight to Saint Albans without stopping. With a new reservation for the night after Thanksgiving, Mike proposed while they were enjoying the hot tub under the stars. Then they promptly celebrated by jumping out of the hot tub and making snow angels in the fresh snow!

Both Carie and Mike have high stress jobs yet always feel an immediate sense of calm, freshness, and serenity when they cross over the border into Vermont. Perhaps they were also swayed by the pictures of beautiful, rustic, chic barn weddings in Vermont Bride magazine, which confirmed to them that they must have their wedding in the Green Mountain state. The Red Clover Inn had sentimental value to Carie and Mike, plus the Inn features a quant, red barn, and a superb restaurant and awesome staff, making it the perfect choice for the reception.

Carie chose lavender as the theme for the wedding, as it has mind, body, and spiritual benefits in addition to a pleasant aroma and a pretty purple flower. There were shades of purple in the decor, hand drawn lavender on the invitations, and a lavender infused frosting on the cake. Since lavender promotes calmness and tranquility it was perfect for a laid back atmosphere during the entire celebration. Carie and Mike wanted a smaller wedding for a more intimate setting. Their friends and family mostly stayed at the Inn and were able to celebrate for an entire weekend of events.

Carie and Mike’s advice for other couples planning a wedding is: “Plan the wedding that is in your heart and not the wedding you think others expect of you. Relax and enjoy the day. What really matters is that you are marrying “the one” and the people most important to you are there to celebrate with you. What more could you ask for?”

Kelly & Ronnie Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Mountain Resort Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

After walking around all day with a ring in his pocket, Ronnie finally felt the perfect moment as he and Kelly walked around the Boston Public Gardens before a dinner reservation. When Kelly sat down by the water to take in the view, Ronnie seized the moment and got down on his knee to propose. Since both Ronnie and Kelly are from Vermont, with Sugarbush Resort being between both their hometowns, it was the obvious choice. They loved that their friends an family could all stay on site to enjoy an entire weekend of celebrating.

With their wedding being held at a ski resort, and Ronnie being an avid skier, they knew they wanted to incorporate skiing into the wedding somehow. They found a pair of antique, wooden skis that they decided to use for guests to sign instead of a traditional guest book and they could become something the couple can display in their home forever.

It was important to both Kelly and Ronnie to include personal, family touches. Kelly’s grandfather performed the ceremony, and they invited all of their aunts, uncles, and grandparents that celebrated a milestone anniversary that year to come out to the dance floor to their wedding song. Kelly and Ronnie’s advice to other couples planning a wedding is: “Right before the rehearsal, let go and enjoy the next couple of days.  There is nothing that you can do to prevent what could or will happen on your wedding day.  Know that you have done everything you can to prepare for this day.”

Angela & Mica Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Mountain Top Inn and Resort | Rustic Elegant Mountain Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

It was at a Halloween party Angela had in grad school where her and Mica first chanced to meet. She was dressed as Mother Nature and he was a lumberjack - talk about “opposites attract”! After grad school the couple moved to Pennsylvania where Mica accepted a teaching job at a college. They still came back to visit their friends in New Hampshire often and decided to spend New Years at the seacoast there. On New Year’s Eve day Micah took Angela to the beach, the location of their very first date and many dates since. Despite the cold they walked along the beach for a while and right before heading back Mica shocked her by getting down on one knee with a ring in his hand. Even more of a surprise, Mica had arranged for a photographer to capture the entire proposal, and did not reveal his secret to Angela until the eve of their wedding where he presented the photos to her as a wedding gift.

Angela grew up in Rutland, Vermont and Mica is from New Hampshire so they both love New England and knew they wanted to have their wedding there. Angela had grown up near the Mountain Top Inn and they had attended a friend’s wedding there, so she knew it had everything on her wish list. The location is stunning and it has the perfect blend of rustic and elegant. Because of this, Angela and Mica did not feel that they had to do much else in terms of decorating. They played off of the natural environment with neutral colors of white, gray, and green. They used wooden flower boxes, geometric lanterns, and candles to keep things simple and intimate.

Ben and Jerry’s ice cream has been a way the couple has celebrated milestones throughout their relationship so they knew serving their guests some of their favorite flavors was a must! They also wanted to include their beloved Bernese Mountain Dog, Jengo, and were thrilled that he could stay at the resort with them and be there for the ceremony.

Angela and Mica’s advice to other couples planning their wedding is: “Don’t get caught up in the little details. You know what you like and what you don’t. Just go with your first instinct. We planned our dream wedding in six short months and much of that was possible because we didn’t stress over the tiny details. The more sure you are of what you want and how you want the day to go, the less likely you are to be influenced by everyone else who has an opinion. We also found a venue that made planning our wedding incredibly easy, meaning that on the day of the wedding, we weren’t running around tending to last minute decisions and we could really enjoy the entire experience. Most importantly, remember that the only thing that really matters is that at the end of your wedding day, you are husband and wife. And that is the best feeling in the world!”

Emily & Patrick Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Rustic Fall Barn Wedding | Wallingford, Vermont | Vermont Bride Magazine

Friends for nine years before they became a couple, Emily and Patrick met in High School. Because of their long friendship it did not take Pat very long to decide Emily was the one, and he proposed on Christmas Day within the first year. They fell in love with The Wallingford Lodge because of it’s woodsy, secluded location, and the amazing views. Emily particularly loved that she had complete control over the decorating of the reception and she DIY’d many of the decor elements in a bohemian/fall theme.

Her favorite detail was the grape soda bottle cap pin she made for Pat in honor of the movie UP and to incorporate their love of Disney. She also loved her customized floral crown made with berries, pinecones, flowers, and succulents. Both Emily and Pat wanted to have an intimate first look before the ceremony. They met at a circle of trees near the lodge to share a giggle and some happy tears before walking down the aisle. Both of Emily’s parents walked her down the aisle, something that meant a lot to her since they are both her best friends and a huge part of her life.
