Stacy & Russ Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Intimate and Small Wedding at a Victorian Inn | Vermont Bride Magazine

Stacy and Russ knew they had something special from the moment they met at a local tea shop. They soon fell into a familiar and comfortable pattern of sharing their life and love together and eventually were married in a small, initimate wedding at Back Inn Time, a classy, Victorian inn in Saint Albans. Here is what Stacy shared with us about her and Russ' relationship and how they planned their wedding:

We met online, through a website called OK Cupid. The site gives you a ton of questions to answer and evaluate, and they use that data to help you identify people you might be compatible with. Russ messaged me one night, and we chatted for a while, and kept chatting for a few days after that. When we decided to meet up in person, I suggested we meet at Dobra Tea. It was close to home for me, so I could walk their easily, and it’s not too noisy or full of drunk people, so I figured it would be a place we could actually talk and get to know one another. We ended up drinking tea and talking to one another until they were closing the shop around us. On the way out, he asked if I would want to go out again, and actually made plans for later that week. At the risk of sounding like every cheesy love story ever told, I felt like that night was really the start of something special.

The first time I saw his apartment was a few weeks later, and I walked in, and immediately noticed that he had owls everywhere. I’ve been collecting (obsessed with) owl things for years, so it felt a little spooky, but in a good way.

Kelly & Ronnie Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Mountain Resort Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

After walking around all day with a ring in his pocket, Ronnie finally felt the perfect moment as he and Kelly walked around the Boston Public Gardens before a dinner reservation. When Kelly sat down by the water to take in the view, Ronnie seized the moment and got down on his knee to propose. Since both Ronnie and Kelly are from Vermont, with Sugarbush Resort being between both their hometowns, it was the obvious choice. They loved that their friends an family could all stay on site to enjoy an entire weekend of celebrating.

With their wedding being held at a ski resort, and Ronnie being an avid skier, they knew they wanted to incorporate skiing into the wedding somehow. They found a pair of antique, wooden skis that they decided to use for guests to sign instead of a traditional guest book and they could become something the couple can display in their home forever.

It was important to both Kelly and Ronnie to include personal, family touches. Kelly’s grandfather performed the ceremony, and they invited all of their aunts, uncles, and grandparents that celebrated a milestone anniversary that year to come out to the dance floor to their wedding song. Kelly and Ronnie’s advice to other couples planning a wedding is: “Right before the rehearsal, let go and enjoy the next couple of days.  There is nothing that you can do to prevent what could or will happen on your wedding day.  Know that you have done everything you can to prepare for this day.”

Kristin & Ian Real Wedding Inspiration | Rustic Wedding in the Woods | Vermont Bride Magazine

Kristin and Ian grew up not too far from each other - she in Massachusettes, and he in nearby Vermont - but it was at a bar in Boston that fate arranged for them to meet. After Kristin's friend literally pushed her to strike up a conversation with Ian (she really did nudge them together!), the rest was history. They both love to travel and the couple even lived in Nicaragua for a few months and have been back to visit several times since. But it was back in Vermont, while snowshowing on Ian's mother's property in Woodstock, that he proposed.

Kristin and Ian decided to hold their wedding at Ian's family's farm for the woodsy, rustic vibe they were looking for. Kristin even held a yoga class for friends and family in the upstairs of a barn on the morning of the wedding. The ceremony was held on a small hill overlooking the pond with a reception under a tent nearby. Wild flowers and mason jars adorned the tables and the couple gave out seeds as favors. Kristin's father is Armenian and her whole family joined him on the dance floor for a traditional Armenian dance called a "Baurd", and set the tone for the party for the rest of the night!

Monica & Patrick Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Elegant Tented Wedding at Hildene The Lincoln Family Home in Manchester Vermont | Vermont Bride Magazine

Monica and Patrick met as young children-their parents remember him chasing her around and saying he would marry her one day! But Patrick and his parents moved away and they lost touch for twenty-something years. A serendipitous reunion on Christmas found them bonding over their mutual love of skiing and Patrick eventually brought Monica to his family vacation home near Stratton Mountain.

Monica and Patrick's love of Vermont drew them to the state to search for a wedding venue. On their very first day of searching, they fell in love with Hildene. There was also a St. Paul’s church nearby, which was perfect since they had met as children at their local St. Paul’s in New York. Their one goal when planning their wedding was to share a memorable celebration with the people who mean the world to them, and to be romantic and playful. It was full of handmade touches they put together with their friends and family; golden animal drink stirrers and magnets to hold the escort cards, floral bases for the centerpieces, and watercolored menus and table names.

Lisa & David Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Barn Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Feeling a connection to the Vermont landscape and people from their very first visit, Lisa and David chose it for their dream destination wedding. They knew they wanted a barn venue and after viewing a video on the Alerin Barn website, they decided to go check it out. It was love at first sight with the perfect outdoor space for the ceremony and a rustic, chic feel that Lisa was looking for. They went with a soft, romantic color palette of dusty shale, soft mint, blush, ivory, and gold—all colors that their wedding photographer knew would look wonderful in the photos as well. Lisa and David DIY’d a lot of the decor, such as the “LUEA” letters hanging in a door frame, centerpieces made of family photos, a suitcase that belonged to Lisa’s aunt became their card holder, and they had little colorful books from Black Ink for guests to write stories or well wishes in.

Kamala & Amr Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Colorful Indian Wedding | Essex Resort and Spa | Vermont Bride Magazine

Kamala and Amr had a gorgeously, darmatic Indian themed wedding featuring a bold color palette of deep raspberry, purple, and gold. Rich tapestries, known as saris, were draped over the rafters in the atrium which perfectly captured the essence of their theme and gave an elegant and dramatic touch to the room. Each table was covered with exquisitely colored linens and unique candle holders that are typically used in Indian weddings. Kamala and Amr’s favorite moments were from their ceremony-the unity sand ceremony, vows, and readings created a beautiful and amazing sequence of events that reflected their deep love for each other and perfectly combined their personalities. Sharing those moments with all of their guests made the whole day magical.

Glenna & Jon Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Winter Barn Wedding in Waitsfield Vermont | Winter/Spring 2017 Issue | Vermont Bride Magazine

Glenna and Jon had one of those rare, yet fabulous, winter Vermont weddings. It takes a special someone to want to have their wedding during the cold and snowy months in the Green Mountains, but since she was a young girl, Glenna had always dreamt of a winter engagement. The snow, the cold, and the rustic charm of the winter all seemed so romantic! So, in early June with a newly purchased engagement ring burning a hole in his pocket, Jon was confronted with a logistical problem. With the summer heat rising, Jon quickly thought of a plan. Jon contacted the hotel in DC that he stayed at during the weekend of his first date with Glenna and made special arrangements with them for the big day.

When the day came, Jon drove Glenna down to DC ostensibly to have dinner with friends. Jon explained that he had reserved the hotel room so that they could celebrate their 2 year anniversary in the city. Upon entering the room, Glenna realized that there was much more to the surprise. Jon had arranged for the hotel to decorate the room in a winter wonderland theme, thus creating the winter engagement Glenna had always wanted, despite the fact that it was the middle of the summer. A Christmas tree, garland, and fake snow covered the hotel suite along with a dusting of rose petals, pine cones, and presents wrapped for Christmas. On the floor, white rose petals spelled out the words, "Will you marry me?". When Glenna turned around to look at Jon he was on bended knee with an engagement ring featuring the center stone from her grandmother's engagement ring...And the rest, as they say, is history!

Bonnie & Corey Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Barn Wedding Inspiration | Vermont Bride Magazine

After Bonnie and Corey were engaged they spent many weekends touring New England for the perfect wedding venue. Bonnie then remembered the beautiful open space at Boyden Valley Winery, which she had toured with her parents months before. After the couple took a drive to check it out, in the dead of winter, they knew it was the ideal place for them. It was important to them both that the wedding was personalized to their relationship and so they ended up putting together most of the details themselves. Bonnie’s parents helped to hand craft table linens, centerpieces, a cupcake stand - even Bonnie’s veil! Almost ever piece of decor at the wedding was created by someone they love.

Because of the historic nature of the barn they were not allowed to have any open flames, but Bonnie still managed to create a warm, ambient lighted atmosphere by using amber colored lights inside of mason jars. The effect reminded Bonnie of her love of catching fireflies as a child. The color palette was an ombre of purples - from eggplant to lavender - as well as gold, and pops of green. The couple wanted to keep waste at a minimum so many items were up-cycled or ended up going home with them. Each guest received a potted cooking herb which doubled as part of the centerpieces.

The reception featured several mini desserts for their guests to enjoy and Bonnie had intended to have mini “his” and “hers” cakes in place of a traditional cake cutting. Due to time constraints the mini cakes did not make it but, on a whim, they decided to toast marshmallows at the outdoor s’mores bonfire and feed them to each other. It was completely spontaneous and very personal as the couple loves to camp and cook outdoors, and became one of their favorite moments.

Bonnie and Corey’s advice for other couples planning a wedding; “This advice was given to us by my cousin Caroline who married us, it was such great advice, I will pass it along. Make sure there is a private space for the two of you to escape to immediately following the ceremony – some place you can be alone for a few minutes to take it all in. Also, have your caterer have a drink and some hors d'oeuvres ready for you in the space. You can toast to being married – and this might be the only time you eat!”

Hilary & Josh | Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Stowe Mountain Lodge | Rustic Elegant Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Hilary and Joshua have lived many places during their relationship, due to Joshua’s military service, but they dream of one day planting roots in Vermont. To them it is the most beautiful state in the country and so it was the perfect place for them to hold their wedding. They chose to stay at Stowe Mountain Lodge while they searched for a venue, but upon checking in to the resort they realized they had already found the perfect place!

Their theme of rustic glamour had shades of purple and gold to compliment the woodsy feel of the decor, which featured lots of flowers and plants. It was the perfect combination of classy, elegance, and rugged, nature. Solstice, the caterer at Stowe Mountain Lodge, worked with the couple to create their dream menu with duck, venison, local cheeses, and all local drinks. Their last minute decision to hire the band The Party Factor for the reception helped them show off their dance lessons.

Hilary and Joshua’s advice for other couples planning their wedding; “When you're choosing a venue, don't forget you're also interviewing a wedding coordinator. One of the main reasons we chose Stowe was because Wendy Collins, our coordinator, was stellar. She made what would have been a stressful year much easier and on the Big Day itself, took care of all the behind the scenes work. We literally had nothing to worry about the day of, and everything went flawlessly.”

Katherine & Neil | Real Vermont Love Story | Basin Harbor Club | Vergennes Vermont | Vermont Bride Magazine

Katherine and Neil first met during a dinner in Beijing, as part of a study abroad program. At dinner with friends, Katherine poured Neil some tea in a gesture of customary manners, but Neil became convinced she was flirting with him. The rest is history. Neil’s original plan for proposing included a hike up Mount Mansfield, but Katherine persuaded him it was too far from Brooklyn for a weekend getaway. He scrambled for another plan, ending up on Breakneck Ridge near Beacon, New York. Katherine is from Vermont and her family has been visiting the Basin Harbor Club for almost 100 years. They loved the idea of choosing a location steeped in family history and somewhere they could plan an entire weekend together with their loved ones, swimming, playing games, and catching up.

To read more of Katherine and Neil's love story and see more photos of their wedding, make sure you check out the Summer/Fall issue of Vermont Bride Magazine, available at the end of May on this website and in newsstands throughout New England!
