Sharon & Mike Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Lakeside Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Both Sharon and Mike practically lived at Bolton Valley Resort, but their paths had never crossed until they met online. After a few dates they lost touch for a while, but fate would have it that Mike would run into Sharon snowboarding at Bolton alone one afternoon. He gave her a call that day and the rest is history! Since Vermont is where they met, it was inevitable that it was the place they wanted to celebrate their marriage. Sharon had her heart set for a location on the water and discovered Basin Harbor while flipping through an issue of Vermont Bride. The couple loved that Basin Harbor combined both their love of the water and of the mountains, and it was a true destination location allowing all of their gusts to stay in one place and enjoy the entire weekend together.

To read more of Sharon and Mike's love story, and see more photos from their wedding, be sure to pick up your copy of the newest issue of Vermont Bride magains, the Fall/Summer 2017 edition! Kristin & Walter Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Lakeside Elegant Black Tie Wedding | Highgate Springs, Vermont | Vermont Bride Magazine

Kristin and Walter, who goes by Woody, are avid travelers and they often take little weekend getaways when their schedule allows it. One such weekend, they headed to Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, for one such trip. After pushing through the jet lag Saturday morning, Kristin was ready to take a nap but Woody insisted they meet up with a tour group he had already paid for. As they stood waiting on a stunning bridge in the middle of Amsterdam, they spent a couple of minutes just taking in the beauty all around them. Kristin started to suspect there really was no tour group coming and then suddenly Woody got down on one knee and proposed! He had even arranged for a photographer to capture the entire thing and then they had an hour long engagement shoot around the city.

Kristin spent the first ten years of her life living in Vermont and even after her family moved to Florida they often vacationed at a summer camp in Highgate Springs. The family lake house is a beautiful spot and perfect for Kristin and Woody to hold their wedding. Having their celebration in a place that held so many childhood memories, set on a beautiful cliff overlooking the lake, was the perfect fit for the couple. The weather was gorgeous and every detail came together better than they had imagined. It was an intimate gathering of their closest friends and family with a balance of their love of the outdoors and Vermont, but still formal and elegant.

Some of their favorite moments happen to have stemmed from mishaps. After all of the flowers died due to a heatwave, Kristin and her bridesmaids went out into the nearby fields and picked buckets of wildflowers. The flowers ended up being more beautiful than Kristin had imagined. While lighting off their wish lanterns some became caught in the trees. There was a brief panic that they would catch the trees on fire, but they eventually floated away in a beautiful display. The lanterns floated across the lake and into the water, which made for a stunning sight for all of their guests.

Laura & Patrick Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Basin Harbor Club Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Laura lived in Vermont her entire life, before moving to Nashville for college, and had brought Patrick there for many trips to visit her family. They both love Vermont in the fall and after Laura saw the wedding arch at Basin Harbor Club, she knew it was the place they should get married. Their families were deeply involved with the wedding planning–Laura’s sister was Maid of Honor, Patrick’s brother was Best Man, Laura’s brothers walked her down the aisle and read passages at the wedding, and her father officiated the ceremony. Right before she put on her wedding gown, Laura’s Aunt brought her a gift from her greatgrandmother. It was a bracelet that her great-grandfather had made for her great-grandmother many years ago. Laura also used the ring pillow both her mother and grandmother had used in their weddings. One of their favorite details from their wedding also was crafted by a family member. Laura’s sister created custom table numbers which featured a photo of Laura and Patrick from that age. The photos of them as babies were adorable and the ones from awkward middle school years provided lots of laughter and entertainment!

To read more of Laura and Patrick's love story and to see more photos from their wedding, pick up a copy of the Winter/Spring 2017 issue of Vermont Bride Magazine today! It is now available for purchase in select retailers throughout New England as well as right here on our site.

Katie & Ben Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Lake Champlain Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Ben and Katie believe that fate was trying to bring them together for years. Both grew up in Vermont and they both attended and graduated from UVM the same year, yet somehow never met. After college, Katie worked for a while at Shearer Acura/Audi and VW, which Ben’s family owns, and he even started working there a few months after Katie left, yet they still did not meet. Finally a mutual friend invited Katie for a dinner with her former coworkers and Ben was there as well. They talked for hours that evening and six months later Ben gave Katie his number and asked her out on a date. Ben’s parent’s home overlooks Lake Champlain and was their immediate choice for hosting their celebration. It was also the perfect backdrop for their romantic, whimsical lakeside wedding theme in blushes, corals, gold, ivory, and green.

Camila & John Real Vermont Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

John grew up in Vermont, and his family still lives there, but Camila did not visit until 2014. She immediately fell in love with the warm hospitality of the people and the beauty of the area. When John and Camila became engaged they knew it was the place they wanted to have an outdoor wedding. After viewing several venues and not feeling that they were a right fit, the couple came across the Notch House online and were so impressed with the video tour of the property that they booked it without seeing it in person. When they were finally able to visit they were blown away with the beauty of Lake Willoughby and the surrounding town of Barton.

They chose a light pink with copper accents for a soft and romantic theme, and it was a priority that they involved their fur babies as part of the special day. It was a small and personal celebration with a focus on their families having fun and getting to know each other. With many family members traveling from out of state and even from other countries, it was truly a destination wedding!

Camila and John’s advice for other couples is; “Enjoy the day as much as possible because it goes by so fast!  Also, don’t sweat the small stuff.  Something will always go wrong in a wedding but as long as your significant other says “I do,” everything else doesn’t matter.  We often reminisce about our wedding and think it was the most amazing day ever!”

Katilin and Eric's Lakeside Elopement | Leap Day Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

There is something wildly beautiful about Lake Champlain in the winter, with the deep blue, icy water and wild terrain dotted with patches of snow. It is a raw, weather striken landscape that still glitters in the sunlight. The contrast of this backdrop with the warmth and intimacy of Kaitlin and Eric's Leap Day elopement is what we love about these images, from 822 Weddings. Kaitlin and Eric's love to each other shines through the chill, while Kaitlin's intricately beaded gown and luxurious coat brought an elegant touch to the intimate affair. Here is what Kaitlin shared with us about how this elopement came about;

Every time I think about the day we eloped, I am smitten. Eric and I achieved everything we were looking for and more with Hitched. Our day was simple but special, and ultimately a day we were able to celebrate our love for each other. The ceremony was intimate, romantic, and spontaneous. The feelings and raw emotion shared with Eric that day were so powerful and special, something I am so happy to have shared lovingly just between us.

Since moving to Burlington three years ago, we have developed a deep love for our new home, a place we hope to permanently call home. It is deeply special we were able to share those feelings on the beach of our new home town. Eric, I and our relationship have blossomed here and we couldn't have thought of a better place to celebrate us, than here in Vermont
From the moment I met Eric, I knew he was the special being I wanted to share my life with. Over ten years later, marriage was not something we felt important to do in our relationship, especially a traditional wedding. My parents recently divorced and Eric helped me work through the feelings I was having surrounding it (how lucky am I to have a psychologist for a partner!). I came to understand on a whole new level how special a commitment of such can mean. We both knew we wanted to continue sharing this life together and elopement seemed like the perfect way to celebrate that bond and love we share. For us, leap day was the perfect day to do it!

The Hitched team helped us achieve everything we wanted with our elopement: a simple, beautiful, meaningful ceremony; all while highlighting the love of our home, Vermont. We are so happy to have collaborated with such an outstanding team at Hitched. We look forward to celebrating with our families and friends next leap day 2020 - our first anniversary.

Love Sets Sail | Wedding Inspiration | Nautical Lake Ideas | Navy Blue and Yellow Color Palette | Anchors and Chevron Stripes

For the next week we will be showing you some sneak peaks of the inspiration features from this issue. Today we are starting with one of our favorites from Sarah Jo Willey, of Creative Muse Floral Design, and Jackie Watson, of Jaclyn Watson Events, and photographed by Paul Reynolds. It is an elegant, nautical design set on the shores of Lake Champlain. With charming white sail boats in the background, and the sparkly blue waters of the lake, and a perfect combination of navy blue stripes and sunny, yellow accents.

Some of our favorite details are the mini messages-in-a-bottle that sever as the place cards for the guests; the eye-catching anchor adorned bread plates; and the fun lemon accents that tie everything together, from the signature cocktail to the centerpiece arrangement. To see more photos from this feature, get your copy of the Vermont Bride Magazine Summer/Fall 2016 issue today!

Katherine & Neil | Real Vermont Love Story | Basin Harbor Club | Vergennes Vermont | Vermont Bride Magazine

Katherine and Neil first met during a dinner in Beijing, as part of a study abroad program. At dinner with friends, Katherine poured Neil some tea in a gesture of customary manners, but Neil became convinced she was flirting with him. The rest is history. Neil’s original plan for proposing included a hike up Mount Mansfield, but Katherine persuaded him it was too far from Brooklyn for a weekend getaway. He scrambled for another plan, ending up on Breakneck Ridge near Beacon, New York. Katherine is from Vermont and her family has been visiting the Basin Harbor Club for almost 100 years. They loved the idea of choosing a location steeped in family history and somewhere they could plan an entire weekend together with their loved ones, swimming, playing games, and catching up.

To read more of Katherine and Neil's love story and see more photos of their wedding, make sure you check out the Summer/Fall issue of Vermont Bride Magazine, available at the end of May on this website and in newsstands throughout New England!

Vintage Tea Party By The Lake | Romantic Wedding Inspiration | Vermont Bride Magazine

When you think of classic, timeless wedding style you probably think of soft, romantic colors and textures. The pink of a budding rose, the delicate ivory of heirloom lace, opulant pearls and sparkling jewels. Those are the exact same ideas that inspired this gorgeous photo shoot from Ashley Largesse Photography. It is one of our favorite features from the Winter/Spring edition of Vermont Bride Magazine, but as with all of our features, we could not fit every amazing photo into the pages of our publication. So without further adieu - here are some of our other favorite images of the beautiful and elegant details from this truly inspiring design.
