Tropical Wedding Inspiration | Turn any setting into a tropical oasis with the right combination of florals, colors, and decorations | Vermont Bride Magazine

The budget conscious couple may not be able to have a tropical destination wedding, but you can easily transform any setting into a tropical oasis using the right flowers, colors, and decorations. The lush combination of pale yellows, vibrant red and orange, and creamy whites instantly adds a warm, summery vibe. The large green leaves are an easy and add another stylish layer to the exotic, wood chargers. Throw in some mercury glass candles and gold accents and you have an elegant, equatorial look that can be adapted to any setting.

Elizabeth and Heather Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Same Sex Marriage | Intimate Bed and Breakfast Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

It seems fitting that Heather and Elizabeth first met while working at a bridal gown store - a fitting omen to their future. Another magical omen occured on the night Heather proposed to Elizabeth, at a Michael Buble concert. What started out as a bad experience with fraudulent tickets turned into the perfect proposal experience, with a cannon firing off red and white hearts exactly as Elizabeth said yes! The couple chose to have their destination wedding in Vermont since it was not legal for them to marry in their home state, and Elizabeth has always loved the East Coast.

The Readmore Inn had everything they were looking for in terms of accommodations and ambiance, and they chose the theme of "Books" to play along with the name of the Inn. Simple and family oriented, everyone stayed with them at the Inn and they enjoyed spending time with those closest to them every morning at breakfast. They shared a bridesmaid and Elizabeth had their florist create a ring corsage for her to carry instead of the traditional bouquet.

Some of their favorite moments from the celebration included;

  • How beautiful the Popolo was for their reception, including vases of flowers that the owner took upon himself to place on each table.
  • The most amazing carrot cake they hadd ever eaten - a naket carrot cake with salted caramel drizzled on top - made by the Popolo.
  • Being able to get dressed up the next day for a second photo shoot with Cricket Polis of Polis Photography, who offered to do that in place of her usual engagement photos since Elizabeth and Heather were from out of state.

Elizabeth and Heather's advice for other couples planning their wedding is; "Make it simple and make you and your partner the priority."

Erin & Paul Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Rustic Mountain Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Erin had no idea that she would meet her future husband when she embarked on her Appalachian Trail thru-hike (hiking the entire trail from Maine to Georgia), but when she met Paul on a section of the trail in Sunfish Pond, New Jersey they swapped emails after eating lunch together. Paul had hiked from Georgia to Maine the year before and was working as a Ridge Runner on the trail. He met up with Erin for one of her final weeks of her hike and they had their first date. The Sunfish Pond section of the trail would later have even more significance as it is the spot where Erin proposed to Paul! She convinced him to go on an impromptu hike on their way to Vermont for Thanksgiving and surprised him with handmade wooden engagement rings.

Erin and Paul decided on Vermont for the location of their wedding because it fit the bill for the outdoor, mountain wedding they wanted. It also helped that Erin’s parent’s home was the perfect location to hold it. Included in their invitations were prayer flags, which they asked their guests to do something creative with and mail them back. The couple then took the flags and hung them in the trees at the site of their ceremony.

Laura & Patrick Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Basin Harbor Club Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Laura lived in Vermont her entire life, before moving to Nashville for college, and had brought Patrick there for many trips to visit her family. They both love Vermont in the fall and after Laura saw the wedding arch at Basin Harbor Club, she knew it was the place they should get married. Their families were deeply involved with the wedding planning–Laura’s sister was Maid of Honor, Patrick’s brother was Best Man, Laura’s brothers walked her down the aisle and read passages at the wedding, and her father officiated the ceremony. Right before she put on her wedding gown, Laura’s Aunt brought her a gift from her greatgrandmother. It was a bracelet that her great-grandfather had made for her great-grandmother many years ago. Laura also used the ring pillow both her mother and grandmother had used in their weddings. One of their favorite details from their wedding also was crafted by a family member. Laura’s sister created custom table numbers which featured a photo of Laura and Patrick from that age. The photos of them as babies were adorable and the ones from awkward middle school years provided lots of laughter and entertainment!

To read more of Laura and Patrick's love story and to see more photos from their wedding, pick up a copy of the Winter/Spring 2017 issue of Vermont Bride Magazine today! It is now available for purchase in select retailers throughout New England as well as right here on our site.

Love Sets Sail | Wedding Inspiration | Nautical Lake Ideas | Navy Blue and Yellow Color Palette | Anchors and Chevron Stripes

For the next week we will be showing you some sneak peaks of the inspiration features from this issue. Today we are starting with one of our favorites from Sarah Jo Willey, of Creative Muse Floral Design, and Jackie Watson, of Jaclyn Watson Events, and photographed by Paul Reynolds. It is an elegant, nautical design set on the shores of Lake Champlain. With charming white sail boats in the background, and the sparkly blue waters of the lake, and a perfect combination of navy blue stripes and sunny, yellow accents.

Some of our favorite details are the mini messages-in-a-bottle that sever as the place cards for the guests; the eye-catching anchor adorned bread plates; and the fun lemon accents that tie everything together, from the signature cocktail to the centerpiece arrangement. To see more photos from this feature, get your copy of the Vermont Bride Magazine Summer/Fall 2016 issue today!

Mercedes & Mark | Montreal Wedding Inspiration | Vermont Bride Magazine

Sometimes, wedding days go off without a hitch from start to finish, as pieces of a puzzle that fit perfectly together. However, sometimes, this so important day has a few little mishaps up it’s sleeve which turn into anecdotes that feed discussions for years to come. Marc and Mercedes’ wedding day is part of the latter. Mother Nature refused to cooperate for their outdoor, couples photos - which were attempted at a quaint and rustic barn on the way to the church - and they had to schedule a session for a later day. Fortunately, Mercedes and Mark did not mind and they were more than happy to spend the extra time with their guests. For their patience they were rewarded with a gorgeous and sunny day - and the chance to dress up again!

Snowy Pond Winter Wedding Inspiration | Vermont Bride Magazine

The weather is finally turning cold and the snow is on it's way to cover the Vermont countryside in a peaceful blanket of white. It's time to cuddle up by the fire with a chunky, knit blanket and a warm cup of cocoa and dream about summer. The time between Christmas and Valentine's Day is also affectionately known as "Engagement Season" - full of romantic proclamations of love and the exciting beginning of life's next chapter. More engagements occur during these two months then at any other point of the year. Funny how the coldest part of the year holds the most warmth for the heart.

We thought it appropriate to share a little sneak peak of one of the features in the Vermont Bride Winter/Spring issue, now available for purchase. It features a serene, snowy pond and a cozy, rustic lodge adorned with winter's finest greenery and some pops of yellow and red to brighten the mood. Candles, hot cocoa, and tasty pastries warm everything up and it's the perfect time to break out the scarves and shawls. And maybe a pair of ice skates, too!

Valerie & Andrew's Vermont Barn Wedding | Real Love Stories | Vermont Bride Magazine

Valerie and Andrew's wedding was full of unique and amazing country details, like antique door frames propped in the field as an entrance to the ceremony, or a rustic barn board surface set up as a guest book where the guests could draw or write messages to the happy couple. The bright yellow sunflowers popped against the deep, blue sky and the rustic, country soiree went on well into the night.
