There are some traditions, like exchanging rings and throwing the bridal bouquet, that remain central to the wedding ceremony.

But there are other customs that have been tossed to the wayside by a generation or two of brides and grooms.
Make your 21st century celebration stand out from the crowd by incorporating these ancient traditions into your wedding plans.

Abby (Cieplicki) & Travis Luck

HOW WE MET:

Travis and I met during my sophomore year at St. Michael’s College. I was working in the snack bar at a local golf club, while Travis was new to the area and a first-year member at the club. On a Sunday afternoon after I made him lunch he struck up a conversation with me. A couple of days later we had our first date.

HOW WE GOT ENGAGED:

Travis and I were on vacation in Florida, and had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. Travis suggested that we stop to get a bottle of champagne on the way back to our hotel. Thinking nothing of it we went back to our hotel, and drank champagne on our patio. While we were talking Travis asked me to stand up, he got down on one knee, took the ring out of his pocket, and asked me to marry him. I was so excited and shocked it was really happening.

FAVORITE MEMORIES:

Everything about our wedding day was perfect. After planning our day for months, looking around and seeing all of our friends and family enjoying our special day with us is a wonderful memory. Another one of my favorite memories was when I was walking down the aisle with my Dad and saw Travis waiting for me.

PLANNING ADVICE:

When you are making decisions about your wedding day remember that it is your day; you and your fiancé should stick to your plan and not be swayed by the opinions of others. Also, I would encourage brides to have fun on their day…take it all in because it goes by so fast!
