FROM THE 2012 WINTER ISSUE OF VERMONT BRIDE MAGAZINE
FJJ and I were set up by my college roommate during my first year at Plymouth State University. After hearing a lot about JJ we finally met at a party during a competitive match of flip cup, which of course I won.
How we metAfter that night we parted ways and celebrated spring vacation, he went to Florida and I went back to Connecticut where I’m originally from. After spring break ended we both returned to Plymouth State and hung out the first night back, since then we have been inseparable. JJ was a year ahead of me in college and graduated the summer of 2008. During that summer I lived with him in Vermont, which was supposed to be for a summer but turned out to be a permanent stay.
JJ proposed to me at Sterling Pond in Stowe, VT. I should have known something was up when JJ suggested we take a day off and go hiking together considering he hates it. Little did I know that JJ had the whole day planned out; we stopped to get sandwiches so we could picnic on top of the mountain. As we began to hike I noticed a perfectly heart shaped rock, we joked around that it was clearly meant to be. We finally reached Sterling Pond after a million stops so JJ could catch his breath and found the perfect place to eat our lunch. I didn’t notice how nervous JJ was until looking back when he insisted that we eat our dessert before our sandwiches. Dessert was a huge chocolate sprinkled fortune cookie, which again he insisted I read the fortune right away. As I began reading it I looked up and JJ was on one knee holding a ring. The rest was a blur from there and as you can see I said yes!
Planning for JJ and me wasn’t fun as we just wanted it to happen, however someone had to take control and that someone was me. My nights and weekends became full of wedding planning, bridal shows, and meetings with vendors. Wedding planning became fun as the wedding neared because it seemed more realistic. I especially enjoyed the festivities leading up to the wedding, trying on dresses, the wedding shower, and the bachelor/bachelorette parties. My fondest memory of the wedding planning was finding my perfect dress and decorating the barn the day before.

The wedding day was by far the best day of our lives, everything looked and felt perfect. I enjoyed getting glammed up for the wedding and wearing my wedding dress, but most of all I was excited to see JJ and his reaction towards me. The ceremony was short and sweet and consisted of a lot of laughing and crying. The most meaningful moment of the ceremony, besides becoming husband and wife, was having the opportunity to thank every person for sharing this special day with us. Once the ceremony was over we took a few pictures and headed over to Boyden Farm. When we arrived we were greeted by our family and friends and the party began.
My favorite memory is having all my friends and family together at one place at one time.
Plan early and don’t stress out about the small stuff because on your day everything will seem perfect to you.
