There are some traditions, like exchanging rings and throwing the bridal bouquet, that remain central to the wedding ceremony.

But there are other customs that have been tossed to the wayside by a generation or two of brides and grooms.
Make your 21st century celebration stand out from the crowd by incorporating these ancient traditions into your wedding plans.

Love Story Winter 2007-2008

Special Event:
Brandon Is For Brides: Kristin (Petty) & Dan Kelleher

September 1, 2007 at the Lilac Inn
Brandon, Vermont

Planning Advice
During the planning process, what was most important to me was having a beautiful outdoor ceremony, and having all of my family and close friends in attendance. The town of Brandon gave me that, and so much more. In addition to the reception at the Lilac Inn, my prize included rehearsal dinner at the Brandon Inn, brunch plus a delicious wedding cake made by Chef Robert of Café Provence, accommodations for all of my guests, invitations, a photographer, flowers, favors, and so much more! The Lilac Inn has the amenities of a 5 star hotel, but the charm and beauty of a country B&B – I’d highly recommend it to all brides-to-be. Shelly and Doug, the owners, made sure that every detail was perfect. The owners of the Brandon Inn are equally hospitable, and worked with us to personalize every aspect of our rehearsal dinner. My guests commented that it was the best food they’d ever had at a wedding, which isn’t surprising since the owner is also a chef! I’d definitely recommend the Brandon Inn to other brides who have high standards for food and service, but would like a more quaint and intimate setting. But my favorite part was quite simply the ceremony itself. It was a perfect day – the sun was shining, and there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky. We were married in the Lilac Inn’s gorgeous back garden, near a pond and in front of a gazebo, with all of our family and friends present.

To quote our fantastic officiant, Steve Wilson,” It is one of life’s happiest surprises when the accidental meeting of two life paths leads them to proceed together along the common path of husband and wife.” I never imagined that my chance encounter with Dan on that night would have such a fairy-tale ending. So my best advice to future brides and grooms is to live fully in the moment, because anything is possible, and you never know what comes next…
