Our Love Story

Catamount Country Club

Laura (Shea) Lafaille was the cover bride from the Winter 2010 issue of Vermont Bride Magazine

Photography by Stina Plant Photography. Event held at the Catamount Country Club.

August 17, 2008

As corny as the saying may be, I believe that how we met could truly be described in one simple word - kismet.

CatamountBoth Chris and I had recently come out of long-term relationships, so we were “new” to the dating scene. All of our friends were no longer single …they had families of their own, and were rarely interested in accompanying us to local singles hot spots, or in playing matchmaker. But all that changed the day after Christmas 2006 when a good friend from high school called me up and invited me out for drinks with her and some friends. They were celebrating her new boyfriend’s birthday. At some point in the evening, the story of how they met came up. We all learned they had met on Match.com. They shared how great an experience it was. I saw how truly happy they were. After much coaxing and consideration, I decided to give it a shot; after all, what did I have to lose? I created the profile “lbsvt” on Match.com the very next day.

Chris was given a laptop for Christmas. He was also given the same advice about Match.com. The two went hand in hand, and Chris created his profile “TopherVT” the day after. Within one day of each other, we joined the Match.com network! I started the flirtation with a “wink” to him on December 29th, and he responded with a sweet message back. We talked back and forth multiple times a day for about a week, via email and phone, and made plans to meet on January 6, 2007. We have been inseparable ever since. So when I say our story was truly kismet, you can now see why. Of all the thousands of people on Match.com, we created our profiles a day apart and only communicated with one another from that day forward!
