I have been shooting photographs since I was 10 yrs old with a kodak pocket instamatic and continued throughout high school and college doing work for local newspapers in my hometown of Camden Maine. I have taught photography at Fryeburg Academy since 1985 and shot my first wedding as a gift in 1990. The first actual job I had as "the" wedding photographer was at once terrifying and exhilarating because it becomes very apparent that you are there to record what is probably one of the most important events in the couples lives. No pressure considering all the things that could potentially go wrong, especially shooting film where you have no feedback whatsoever on exposure and focus quality. I realize after shooting dozens of weddings I still get nervous about doing the best job I can and being there to capture the moment but being invisible at the same time so as not to interfere with the events as they happen. I still feel so privileged to share in the behind the scenes anxiety and excitement as months of preparations and years of dreaming all come together in one special day. I tend not to worry about things out of my control such as the weather and always have a plan b and c just in case. I realize it one of the few times all these people will be together as one and love watching them come together.I enjoy people and I think that shows in my photography as they share their excitement with the camera, and with digital I typically now shoot 1200 images to make sure everyone gets a chance to shine. I also know to never lose track of where the bride as she is the center of the galaxy around which everything and everyone else revolves.
