The InneAs much as we love the area, the summer crowds and traffic can make it unbearable, especially as we were planning our perfect wedding celebration.
We briefly considered some Caribbean resorts with their various packages until close friends suggested Vermont.
They had attended a wedding in Stowe several years earlier and were impressed with the beauty and quality of their entire experience. They commented in particular about the impressive and genuine friendliness of everyone they encountered in the mountains.
Our search on the Internet revealed the many opportunities available. Ye Olde England Inne in Stowe came very highly regarded by guest comments on www.tripadviser.com as a full-service country hotel that could accommodate our group of 120 guests.
We met with the owners Chris and Lyn who, despite having a large staff, are very hands-on and supervise all events personally. They had come to fall in love with Stowe 27 years ago on vacation from their native England and stayed.
They toured us around the property, with its great views, that sits high above the village. The rooms and suites are lovely; many with fireplaces, wet bars, private balconies and Jacuzzis for two.
Lyn’s thoughtful designer eye has lots of romantic touches everywhere. The cottage suites with two bedrooms and kitchens are perfect for families. Every room and suite was well-equipped for guests with all the expected amenities plus ironing boards and irons. The ‘Boathouse’ was the perfect venue for our dinner and dancing reception with the sides pulled back to provide a tent-like experience beneath the post-and-beam structure.
Our meeting with the chef convinced us that this was “The Place.” We were impressed with his creativity and passion for his work. Ideas were discussed and eventually he created a menu to include my southern Italian heritage and the traditional love of beef Wellington for Barry’s side of the family. He designed the plates for each course and his pastry chef perfected the design for our wedding cake to complement the colors I would be using in the wedding.
We always felt secure as we continued to plan by phone and e-mail during the months leading up to our June date.
Barry’s parents arranged the wedding rehearsal dinner: a relaxed Bar-B-Q in the English Pub, Mr. Pickwick’s. With their huge wine cellar and choices of more than 150 varieties of beers, our weekend was launched with great success.
Our day was perfect. We married in the beautiful church on historic Main Street and were whisked away in an antique Rolls Royce for photographs and then on to the reception.
Joey Leone’s Chop Shop Band (they were incredible) were playing for our arrival and the fun began. The martini bar was a huge hit (that was a surprise addition arranged by my father).
The food from the passed hors d’oeuvres to our wedding cake was even better than we had anticipated. Friends still talk about how wonderful the food and service at Ye Olde England Inne was.
We wanted a perfect experience but our expectations were exceeded. It does not get better than that. We are regular visitors to the Inne now and are members of their exclusive Crown Club.
For an unforgettable, joyous experience, I would highly recommend Ye Olde England Inne. Barry and I couldn’t have been more pleased.
