Annie & Bill Real Wedding Inspiration | Rustic Country Wedding | Barn Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Annie and Bill were married at the gorgeous rustic venue, Gilbertsville Farmhouse, planning their wedding from their home in Idaho. Being environmental studies majors in college, the couple loved the entire experience they could have at Gilbertsville Farmhouse. There were many details that showed their personal love of nature; the bird themed seating chart and table "numbers", bird seed in the personalized lovebird pint glasses, gorgeous wild flowers, just to name a few. It just so happened that on their wedding day, that the owners of Gilbertsville Farmhouse adopted two kittens and since Bill and Annie adore kittens, they were a perfect addition to their sunset photos.

What was the proposal like? We traveled to Quebec City for New Year’s Eve and stayed in a beautiful suite at Chateau Frontenac overlooking the St. Lawrence River.  Four years earlier we had spent our first New Year’s Eve together in Quebec City, so it already held a special place in our hearts as we had the most fun and romantic experience where we reminisced about returning.  Soon after we arrived and settled into our beautiful room there was a knock on the door and to my surprise, Don had coordinated for my sister to join us to spend her first night away from her 3-month-old baby in Quebec City for New Year’s Eve and to celebrate our engagement.  I was surprised with dinner reservations that evening at Le Saint-Amour where we had dined four years earlier, which is also rated in the top ten of Canadian traveler’s favorite dining restaurants and an icon of Quebec gastronomy.  We opted for the Chef’s menu with wine pairing as we had done in the past, which quickly turned our evening into a full dining event.  By the end of the dinner we were all so full that the thought of one more course was almost unbearable, but dessert was served with a note on my plate and Don getting down on one knee to pop the question.  It almost felt as though the other restaurant goers were in on the surprise because they all stopped eating to watch us in our moment and they broke out into a huge applause congratulating and celebrating with us.  We then spent two more days in Quebec City and quietly enjoyed our recent engagement only sharing the news with our closest friends and family.  It wasn’t until we returned from our trip that we published the news on social media as we wanted to spend our time in Quebec City living in the moment and celebrating our excitement with just each other.

How did you choose your venue? We both knew that we would prefer a more intimate wedding with our closest friends and family, which is why we decided on hosting a destination wedding.  I was more hesitant about planning a destination wedding as I knew that some of our loved ones would not be able to go and I also knew that the distance could be difficult for planning purposes.  When I began my venue search, I realized that I couldn’t imagine our wedding any other way than on a beach, which led us to our choice in celebrating in Barbados.

How and where did you meet? Benjamin and I met in Philadelphia at the, now closed 941 Theatre, on New Year’s Eve 2008. It was love at first sight. I thought he was so handsome! We were friends for a few years, then started dating long-distance in 2011, i was in Vermont and he was in Philadelphia, I eventually moved to Philadelphia by the end of that summer.

What was the proposal like? Benjamin proposed on Christmas morning in our living room in Philadelphia. It was just the two of us and it was so personal and romantic I still can’t believe how surprised I was. It was so special!
