Rachel and Michael met in Cape Town, South Africa, while on a study abroad program in law school. Rachel had almost decided to not attend the program as her father had passed away right before she left. Her family and friends encouraged her to go, despite her sadness, and now she is ever so grateful she did. Fate would have it that the two would meet and, within days, they were inseperable. They studied together, explored the country together - even dove with great white shark together! They enjoyed the trip so much that they decided to extend it, renting a car and driving along the South African coast. Eventually the day came that they had to return to their respective law schools, which were far apart in different cities. But they were determined to make the long distance work and many plane trips, phone calls, and emails later - they were finally ready to tie the knot. Because their relationship had been scattered across the country, it only made sense to Rachel and Micael that they should have a destination wedding - in Vermont!

Diana & Warren Real Vermont Wedding | Waitsfield Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Vermont Bride Magazine

Diana and Warren were married on a beautiful summer day at Lareau Farm Inn, tucked away in the green mountains. The farm has plenty of rolling land, with a rustic Vermont barn and breathtaking views of the mountains as a backdrop. The path to the wooden chuppah was lined with mason jars filled with flowers and the guests sat on long wooden benches for the ceremony. Warren’s Dad officiated the ceremony, which was very intimate and family oriented. Afterwards, guests played croquet and corn hole during cocktail hour, and there was a fire pit for roasting marshmallows later on in the evening. Once the sky had darkened, Diana, Warren, and some of their guests lit off floating lanterns to end their incredible wedding celebration.

Liza & Pat | Essex, Vermont

Liza & Pat Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Vintage, Rustic Barn Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine

Pat used to live across the street from the bar that Liza worked at and after a year of prompting from friends and coworkers, they finally began dating. Eventually they bought a house together, moving in during the winter. Once summer came and the snow thawed, they discovered an idyllic creek in their backyard which quickly became their favorite spot to relax. One afternoon Pat went down on one knee right in the water and asked Liza to marry him. They then had an impromptu celebration with close friends, family, and lots of champagne making it one of their fondest memories of their engagement.

Since both Liza and Pat are native Vermonters there was no question that was where they would hold their wedding. Liza has a penchant for vintage and the Barn at Lang Farm had the perfect combination of vintage style and Vermont fee that they were looking for. With antique touches and incredible views of Camels Hump beyond the farm’s gardens, the couple were sold. Their vintage-meets-rustic theme featured a blush, navy, gray, and marsala color palette and included lots of homemade and vintage touches.

Liza had grown up swooning over her grandparent’s black and white wedding portraits and knew she wanted to incorporate them somehow into the decor. She collected wedding portraits from other family and friends and dedicated each table to a different couple. It was a special way to include people whose marriage had inspired them in their own relationship. They also asked certain family members to bring a special dessert- grandma’s homemade donuts, Jackie’s signature apple pie, and Katie’s macaroons-to create a homemade dessert spread that their guests are still talking about!

They tried to DIY as much as possible so that their personalities and style really shone through. From wine bottle centerpieces, made from bottles of wine they shared, to a meticulously curated playlist of music, Liza and Pat did everything together. In this way the fun-loving and happy couple were able to give their family and friends a truly unforgettable party.

Liza and Pat’s advice for other couples: “t’s easy to get caught up in excitement and the details, but don’t let it stress you out. In the end, your guests will remember the experience, not the font on your invitations. Remember that ultimately this is a celebration for the two of you, so it should reflect both of you. Don’t try to do everything yourself - you’d be surprised what your groom wants to help with.”

Rick & Megan Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Tyler Place Family Resort | Vermont Bride Magazine

Megan and Rick initially met at a cafe at the University of Vermont, but it wasn't until Rick invited Megan boating on Malletts Bay that they sparked a connection. Their engagement was picture-perfect, with champagne by the fire at the Von Trapp Lodge in Stowe, followed by a horse drawn sleigh ride at sunset where Rick got down on one knee in the sleigh and proposed. The couple already knew the perfect place to hold their wedding—The Tyler Place Family Resortwhich is owned by Rick’s family. Their guests were able to stay on the property in the resort's cabins, where they were greeted by welcome bags filled with Vermont organic products.

The Tyler Place Resort offered a beautiful backdrop to their celebration, which included an outdoor ceremony under an arbor, and signature cocktails and appetizers on the lawn. Their advice for other couples planning their wedding: “Keep it simple and don’t spend more than you can afford.  People will remember the good times and human interactions, not the expensive items littering your wedding site.

Julie & Brian Real Vermont Wedding Inspiration | Mountain Top Inn and Resort Wedding | Vermont Bride Magazine | Rustic Elegant Purple and Gray Wedding

Although both had been married before, Julie and Brian both knew that this time was different, and they wanted to celebrate the joy of finding a love that is also built on friendship. Thus their “It is never too late for Happily Ever After” theme was born! The couple has spent many holidays and special occasions at The Mountain Top Inn and Resort and knew it would be the prefect spot to say “I do”. It even overlooks the Chittenden Reservoir, where Julie and Brian went kayaking on their very first date.

Their color palette was gray, neutrals, and touches of purple. They also incorporated birch candle holders that were hand cut from family property in New York. There were lots of handmade touches- Julie’s best friend Tracie hand crafted the silk flowers that were in the bouquets and center pieces, and Brian made his famous handmade fudge for favors. The hair piece Julie wore closely resembled the one her mother had worn at her own wedding, 50 years prior, and the rose petals guests tossed had been saved from roses Julie received from Brian throughout their relationship. The kayak oar guest book also has special meaning, as both Julie and Brian love to kayak and it was how they connected on their first date.

Family is number one to both Julie and Brian, so they wanted to involve their family as much as possible. The wedding party consisted of their children and grandchildren. Brian’s son, Kristopher, gave a heartfelt and humorous speech, while Julie’s three daughters, Alaura, Alyssa, and Aimee, put together a speech that went along with the Fresh Price of Bel-Air rap. Their friend Lauren, who first introduced the couple, officiated at the ceremony and was able to tell guests how the couple first met.

Some of Julie and Brain’s favorite moments included the final sendoff where guests made an arch of sparklers the couple went through as they cheered, Tracie and her son Chase, did a reading from Dr. Seuss “Oh the Places You Will Go!”, Julie’s niece, Kelly, also did a reading, and Molly Quinn did an amazing rendition of “I Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Their advice for other couples planning a wedding; “Enjoy every moment of your engagement!”
